What is it like?
This is not your typical rock climbing rappel event. You will be wearing a full-body industrial harness and using an industrial descender to go down. You control your speed, to a certain extent. Should you go too fast, the back-up device will engage. Getting your weight off the roof and into the harness is the difficult part for most people. You will have an opportunity to practice your technique during training, and a technician will guide you through these steps. Once you are over the edge, you will have radio communication with your technician. Don't forget to stop and take in the beautiful view of downtown Sioux Falls!
what is over the edge?
Over the Edge is a Canada-based special events company that provides signature events for nonprofit organizations anywhere in North America. Participants are invited to raise pledges in exchange for the once-in-a-lifetime experience of going Over the Edge of a local building. In Sioux Falls, Over the Edge crew handles the technical aspects of the event and Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Sioux Empire recruits rappellers to participate in the event and raise money on their behalf.

We would love for you dress up to go Over the Edge! All costumes will need to meet the same standards as listed above "What should I wear when I rappel?" Capes will not be allowed due to safety regulations. If you have a question about what alterations your costume will need, please email Annamarie pictures of you wearing your costume prior to the event to firstname.lastname@example.org. We constantly worry about objects being dropped over the side - so personal cameras are prohibited. You won't have a free hand to take photos anyway.
We will have professional photographers on the roof and you will receive the image after the event.
If you are using a GoPro it must be securely fastened to you to the satisfaction of the rappel staff. If you don't have access to a GoPro, one can be provided for your descent if you reach the $1,500 fundraising goal.
We hope you will share your experience on social media outlets. Please use #OTEforBBBS

Absolutely - we would love for your friends and family to join us in the Landing Zone experience in the parking lot of Raven Industries. This Landing Zone will have a great view to take additional videos, photos, and stream live on Facebook.
Only registered Edgers are allowed in the staging areas and on the roof.

The best way is to have employees raise $1,000 to TOSS YOUR BOSS Over the Edge for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Sioux Empire.
We do have a stipulation: if your Boss decides they would rather match the $1,000, they have the option to send someone who helped raise money Over the Edge in their place. Contact Annamarie Jakos to help get your organization involved!
