Have you ever felt alone or in need of someone to talk to, or someone who could offer friendship and support? Who do you have in your life who you could call and ask a question about how to help your child through teething or get suggestions about what to do with a diaper rash, or talk about how you can complete school, etc.?
Mentor Mom’s provide a more experienced mother who offers positive role modeling, friendship, education and support to young moms through one-to-one relationships.
Goals of the Mentor Mom program are to:
Provide friendship and support.
Help Young Moms access health, financial and educational assistance.
Increase Young Moms knowledge of living and parenting skills.
Encourage Young Moms to stay in and finish high school or get their GED.
Improve the Young Moms sense of self-worth.
Encourage appropriate family planning.
Eligibility Criteria
Must be at least 13 years old
Must be pregnant or the parent of a young child
Have a desire to participate in the program
Must reside in the State of the Sioux Empire
Make a commitment to have a minimum of two visits per month and a weekly phone call.
Have needs appropriate for volunteer intervention.
